Like Mother, Like Daughter: Duo Shaves Heads for Cancer Research
Golisano Children’s Hospital doctor and daughter support St. Baldrick’s

Growing up, 13-year-old Rhyanna Bredlau watched her mother, Amy-Lee Bredlau, M.D., F.A.A.P., pediatric oncology fellow at Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center, shave her head to raise money for cancer research, admiring her selfless actions. This year, Rhyanna and Dr. Bredlau will join forces as a mother-daughter team at the St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s local Shaving the Way event on Sunday, March 11.

“Rhyanna watches the day-to day-tribulations I go through as a kids’ cancer doctor,” said Bredlau. “Our patients and their families never really see the impact their diagnosis and therapy have on their doctors, but it is tremendous.”

With every dollar that Rhyanna and her mother raise for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, they are helping to fund cancer research and find cures for patients like the ones the Bredlau sees on a daily basis. The sixth annual Rochester area Shave the Way event features activities such as face painting and raffles to contribute to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, in addition to the head-shaving, where participants seek donations from friends and family members, other family-friendly.

The event will take place at 1 p.m. at Mickey Finn’s Restaurant and Tavern on 14 Railroad Street in Victor.
