June 3rd Golf Classic to Benefit Women’s Health. Proceeds Will Advance Pelvic Pain Research at URMC

Victor Hills Golf Club will host a Women’s Health Golf Classic on Friday, June 3, to benefit advances in pelvic pain research at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Chronic pelvic pain is more common in women than migraine headaches and asthma. Seventeen percent of women will experience it at some time during their lives, 4 percent to the extent that it impairs their ability to work, go to school, or live normally. It is the reason for 17 percent of all hysterectomies done in the U.S.

“Chronic pelvic pain affects one in 14 women in the United States, yet it is one of the most private, and therefore, least discussed health conditions affecting women,” said James R. Woods Jr., M.D., Henry A. Thiede Professor and chair of URMC’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “While techniques such as minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery have improved women’s lives, much more needs to be done. We invite area golfers to help support research to advance new and more effective treatments by participating in our Women’s Health Golf Classic.”

URMC’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is home to some of the nation’s most respected experts in studying, diagnosing and caring for women with chronic pelvic pain. It is one of only four academic obstetrics and gynecology departments with a fellowship program dedicated to education, treatment and research of chronic pelvic pain in women.

The Golf Classic is open to the public. Entry fees are $350 for a foursome or $100 for individuals.  Participants will tee off at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start on Victor Hills’ South Course. The tournament includes lunch at the turn and a concluding program complemented by hors d’oeuvres and prizes.
