Local IHOP Restaurants Flip to Help the Kids
Rochester IHOPs whip up two ways to help Golisano Children’s Hospital this winter

The only thing better than free pancakes are free pancakes for a good cause. On Wednesday, Jan. 25, the Rochester IHOP restaurants will be holding a special promotion to provide free kids’ meals, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., when a $5 donation per kid is made to Golisano Children’s Hospital. Then, on Tuesday, Feb. 28, IHOP restaurants nationwide will be celebrating National Pancake Day with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH).

CMNH is a group of 170 children’s hospitals across North America that Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center is a part of. Local IHOP customers can enjoy a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 28, when they make a donation to Golisano Children’s Hospital.

IHOP restaurants have raised nearly $8 million to support the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since beginning the National Pancake Day celebration seven years ago. Last year, the Rochester IHOP location’s raised $4,600.

“Last year they really went above and beyond,” Betsy Findlay, Director of Advancement for Golisano Children’s Hospital said. “We’re so grateful to them for their efforts, and can’t wait for another successful event this year.”

The two Rochester area IHOP restaurants, located at 556 Jefferson Road in Henrietta and 2190 North Goodman St. in Irondequoit, are especially enthusiastic about this day every year. Last year on Pancake Day, the employees wore Golisano Children’s Hospital t-shirts with the slogan “Making Miracles Happen” and took fun photos with a life-sized Sandy Strong cut-out. Their spirit and passion last year earned them the honor of receiving the Miracle Maker award for Outstanding Commitment by a CMN Hospitals Sponsor.
