Finger Lakes Kiwanis Collect Donations, One Quarter-Mile at a Time
Kiwanis Division Holds Fundraising Event to Benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital
The Quarter Mile of Quarters fundraising event is just what it sounds like – members from the local Kiwanis clubs collect donations of quarters from shoppers at the mall, with the goal of collecting 15,840 quarters, or quarter-mile of quarters, to help kids treated at Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. The simple concept has done wonders for the children in our community.
The Finger Lakes Division has raised about $25,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital over the past six years through this annual event. More than 250 volunteers in the Finger Lakes Division, from at least 10 clubs and five schools, will help escalate that impressive fundraising total by participating in this year’s fundraiser, set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 16, in the main court area at Eastview Mall in Victor.
“The Kiwanis realized long ago that a world class children’s hospital is critically important to the quality of life for families in this region,” said Jon Hanratty, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals chair for the Finger Lakes Kiwanis Club. “The number of children who have received the highest quality medical care, and in many instances life-saving care, is testimony to the immeasurable benefit that Golisano Children’s Hospital has brought to the western New York area. It is for this reason that the Kiwanis clubs that comprise the Finger Lakes Division and the Genesee Divisions come together to raise money for the Children’s Hospital through events like the Quarter Mile of Quarters.”
Kiwanis clubs are dedicated to helping improve the quality of life for children from the other side of the world and right here in the local Finger Lakes region. For more on how to get involved or to learn more, please email jwhanratty@frontiernet.net or visit http://www.kiwanis-ny.org/
