Free Heart Screenings Feb. 13 at Strong Memorial Hospital
University of Rochester Medical Center cardiologists will offer free blood pressure and oxygenation screenings, which are key indicators of heart disease, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Feb. 13, at Strong Memorial Hospital Lobby. This is part of the Medical Center’s community outreach efforts to mark American Heart Month.
Doctors and nurses at the URMC Heart and Vascular Center will also offer demonstrations of how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and provide tips for improving heart health. Screening participants will receive free parking in the ramp garage.
Each year, cardiovascular disease tops the list of the country’s most serious health problems. People can reduce their risk by choosing a healthy diet, exercising, avoiding tobacco use and completing routine health check-ups.
According to the American Heart Association, about one third of all Americans have some form of heart disease, including high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke and other conditions. By 2030, experts estimate that about 116 million people in the United States will have some form of cardiovascular disease.
The Medical Center has a long history of providing comprehensive expertise in all specialties of clinical cardiovascular medicine, with regional dominance in electrophysiology, heart failure, heart transplantation, vascular medicine, aortic surgery and pediatric heart surgery. The Department of Cardiology. has nationally recognized research programs in vascular medicine, atrial fibrillation, ablation, hereditary arrhythmias and use of artificial hearts for heart failure patients.
