If you’re looking for the OPC Factor official website – click here

What are OPCs?

OPCs have been found to be among the most potent and powerful antioxidants in the world. The reason for using these different sources is due to the fact that each has different bioflavonoids that affect different parts of the body. Scientific evidence has uncovered seven different types of free radical activity in the human body.

Because they are rapidly absorbed and quickly distributed throughout the body, OPCs come to the aid of the body more quickly than other antioxidants. They also neutralize free radicals faster.

Scientific evidence has uncovered seven different types of free-radical activity in the human body. OPCs maintain health by acting both directly and indirectly on the body.

We have found that this particular formula has the potential to react with almost all free radical activity due to the different bioflavonoids unique to each type of extract.

What do OPCs do and why do I need them?

In addition to being free-radical fighters, OPCs protect connective tissue – collagen, in particular – and prevent damage to cellular membranes caused by oxidation. Vascular membranes, the linings of the stomach and intestines, sinus and respiratory cavities, and joints and vertebral spaces all enjoy OPC protection.

As a super antioxidant, OPCs prevent or reverse diseases and degeneration. They increase proper blood flow, bring energy to the body, and help in the absorption of other vitamins and minerals into the bloodstream.

If I can get them in my diet, why should I supplement? or use OPC Factor?
Although a healthful diet contains antioxidants, it’s difficult to get enough of them from food alone to fend off those dogged free radicals. And, while all antioxidants help to prevent or minimize damage from oxidation, all antioxidants are not created equal. Their protective properties vary based on their structures and biological activities. Some antioxidants help prevent cancer (such as polyphenols in green tea), some protect the heart (such as vitamin F), some enhance immune function (such as vitamin C) and others increase microvascular circulation (such as anthocyanins in bilberry).

I eat really well so do I really need OPC Factor?
If you’re not eating the seven to nine servings of fruits and vegetables you need EVERY SINGLE DAY, then you are not getting the antioxidant protection you need EVERY SINGLE DAY. And, unfortunately, today’s food supply is not as nutrient-rich as it was just a generation ago.

Why is OPC Factor better than other antioxidant formulas on the market?
Using only the finest quality ingredients, OPC Factor is a unique formulation combining antioxidants, anti-cancer ingredients, cardiovascular helpers and digestive enzymes. They work synergistically to deliver a powerful punch. Plus OPC Factor’s delivery system delivers this superior nutrition into your bloodstream in the fastest, most efficient way.

What is effervescence? What are its benefits?
When added to water, OPC Factor‘s bubbly effervescence replicates the buffering action of the body’s own intestinally generated, mildly alkaline bicarbonate. In the same way that Alka-Seltzer® buffers the harsh effect of aspirin and thus eliminates stomach upset, OPC Factor’s effervescence improves tolerance. Effervescence also dramatically improves absorption, with the added benefit of contributing vital potassium and other key electrolytes to the diet.

What is isotonic? What is the benefit?
OPC Factor is a specially balanced isotonic solution, designed for immediate delivery into the bloodstream. This is the key to rapid absorption! Tears, blood plasma, lymph and other body fluids are all isotonic, and isotonic solutions for human consumption have the same fluid pressure as these natural body fluids. Studies show that supplements are better absorbed when they dissolve in conditions that mimic the isotonic contents of your intestines, not your stomach. Remember, the pH of the stomach is too acidic.

Is this good for diabetics? Why?
OPC Factor is excellent for diabetics. The formula contains no sugar – it is sweetened with Sucralose. A University of California-Irvine College of Medicine study found that antioxidants not only enhance insulin’s ability to reduce blood sugar, but also lower the risks of organ damage that can occur despite insulin treatments.

Research has shown that boosting insulin with vitamins C and E, which are known antioxidants, may improve the drug’s effectiveness for treating diabetes. Lutein and lycopene, key ingredients in our formula, have been associated with reduced risk of macular degeneration – a condition diabetics are susceptible to.

I hear a lot about inflammation in the news now. Does OPC Factor help with inflammation?
OPC Factor is an excellent anti-inflammatory. You are correct – inflammation has become one of the hottest areas of medical research. Inflammation is being linked to heart attacks, cancer, Alzheimer’s and other diseases. Inflammation is the body’s first defense against infection, but when it goes awry, it can head to a host of diseases. All inflammatory disorders involve free radicals. OPC Factor’s antioxidant formula quenches free radicals and inhibits inflammation.

We know today that allergies are an immune disorder, just like other inflammatory diseases such rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis, Crohn’s disease, lupus and ulcerative colitis. Oxidative stress has been directly linked to more 100 degenerative conditions of the body.

Have OPCs been tested?OPCs have undergone extensive plant testing and have successfully demonstrated unsurpassed antioxidant activity. With in vivo testing, OPCs have successfully demonstrated that, as a beneficial antioxidant, they are unsurpassed.

Nutritional science has turned a major corner in the past decade, with scientific researchers and physicians alike now fervently testifying to the preventive benefits of antioxidant nutrients and acknowledging oxidation as a primary cause of disease and bodily deterioration.

What are the OPC Factor Ingredients?

OPC Factor contains most vitamins and microelements essential for your health:

Vitamin A
Vitamin C
Vitamin D
Vitamin E
Folate (folic acid)
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B6
Magnesium
Zinc
Selenium
Copper
Manganese
Chromium
Molybdenum
Potassium

The powerful antioxidant properties and health benefits of OPC Factor come from:

Green Tea Leaf Extract - Green tea is the second-most consumed beverage in the world (water is the first) and has been used medicinally for centuries in India and China. Green Tea Extract has an antioxidant activity about 25-100 times more potent than vitamins C and E. A simple cup of green tea may provide 10-40mg of polyphenols and has antioxidant activity greater than a serving of broccoli, spinach, carrots or strawberries.
Green Tea extracts have been used to; Lower cholesterol & triglycerides levels – Reduce blood clotting – Enhance immune function – aiding in weight loss. Green tea and green tea extracts have also been used for improving mental alertness and protecting skin from sun damage.
Because the active compounds, the catechins, found in green tea are known to possess potent antioxidant activity, they may provide beneficial health effects by protecting the body from the damaging effects of oxidative damage from free radicals. A number of chronic disease states have been associated with free radical induced oxidative damage, including heart disease, suppressed immune function and accelerated aging.

Bilberry extract - This is a rich source of bioflavonoids and anthocyanidin compounds. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Bilberry may halt the progressive visual loss of dry macular degeneration and possibly even improve visual function. It has also been shown that Bilberry extract plus Vitamin E stopped progression of cataract formation in 97% of 50 patients with cataracts. Bilberry may also prove helpful in the treatment of glaucoma by strengthening collagen structures in the eye. Bilberry improves night vision, and promotes more rapid restoration of visual acuity after exposure to glare. Anthocyanosides help the blood vessels of the eye and retina, especially the macula.

Full-spectrum plant enzymes - Enzymes are protein molecules which carry a vital energy factor needed for every chemical action and reaction that occurs in our body. There are several thousand different enzymes found in the human body. These enzymes can combine with co-enzymes to form nearly 100,000 various chemicals that enable us to see, hear, feel, move, digest food and think. Every organ, every tissue, and all the 100 trillion cells in our body depend upon the reaction of enzymes and their energy factor. Nutrition cannot be explained without describing the part that enzymes play.

Lycopene - Tomatoes are loved for their fresh taste and the versatile role they play in cooking. Tomatoes contain many nutrients, among them vitamins C and B complex and the minerals iron and potassium. Also in the mix are carotenoids (kuh-ROT-uh-noids). These include Lycopene and beta carotene, which are converted into vitamin A by your body. Research indicates there may be another reason to love them. They’re loaded with Lycopene (LY-ko-pene). Lycopene is a plant chemical (phytochemical) that gives tomatoes their red color. It also appears to offer potential health benefits such as a reduced risk of macular degenerative disease, serum lipid oxidation, and cancers of the lung, bladder, cervix, prostate, and skin.

Lemon Bioflavonoid Complex - Lemon bioflavonoid complex is a natural extract produced from lemon peels. Lemon bioflavonoid are another rich source of bioflavonoids and anthocyanidin compounds. Lemon Flavonoids demonstrate potential to reduce the mutation of the cells, as well as antioxidant activity. Recently, studies have taken a look at lemon flavonoids role in the prevention of cancer cells, as well as in the maintenance of capillaries. Lemon bioflavonoids are an important part of the daily diet. They function closely with Vitamin C and it is recommended that the two are consumed together.

Ginko biloba - Many studies show that Ginkgo Biloba (especially the concentrated extracts) can improve memory recall, but Ginkgo Biloba in herbal form can effect the whole body. Bioflavonoids have long been considered important in protecting microcirculation in small blood vessels.
The bioflavonoids in Ginkgo Biloba are no exception, exhibiting the ability to protect and repair the microcirculation of capillaries. They have a stronger biological activity than most other bioflavonoids, and have a specific affinity for the capillary beds of the brain.

Research shows that Ginkgo Biloba lowers blood pressure, inhibits blood clotting, relieves muscle pain, and has anti-aging properties. Preliminary study results indicate Ginkgo Biloba may also slow the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Cruciferous vegetable concentrate - Studies indicate that Sulforaphane, found in broccoli sprouts and cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, may be very effective in protecting cells from oxidative stress. According to researchers Sulforaphane may play a key role in increasing the body’s natural antioxidant defense systems. They may also function as a powerful indirect antioxidant with a longer lasting effect that vitamins C and E.

Lutein - Lutein is believed by some to provide protection for the fovea, our central vision, by absorbing the harmful blue ultraviolet light. This absorption is nearly 40% reduction of blue light.
The antioxidant properties of lutein help to prevent damage caused by light and oxygen. Several studies have concluded that intake of these carotenoids have lowered the chances of neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

D-Glucose - D-Glucose is the main source of energy for living organisms. It occurs naturally and in the free state in fruits and other parts of plants. Normal human blood contains 0.08-0.1% d-glucose. It is included to stimulate the sodium pump mechanism of active transports and to help maintain the bioavailability of the product.

Citric Acid - Citric Acid is widely distributed in plants, especially citrus varieties, and in animal fluids and tissues. Citric Acid is a necessary ingredient for pH stability of the product in solution.

Does OPC Factor Work? Customer Reviews of OPC Factor.

Here are some independent OPC and OPC3 customer reviews we found on the web and on forums:

Fullerton, CA United States - for first the week i use this product, my face had some reaction but it only last for a week or so. i believe it was because it got the toxic through my skin. Later my face would be softer and start to glow. I take 3-4 little caps a day. OPC-3 is a strong antioxident, not only will improve my skin texture, i sleep better at night when i take 2 small caps before bed. I have been taking OPC3 for 2 months now, and i will be on my 3rd bottle next week. Then i started to study this product and the more i know about the product, the move i love it and want to share with people around me.
This is an “isotonic” product which means using the directed amount of powder and amount of water, will allow the body to absorb OPC3 in 5 minutes up to 95%. Because it is isotonic, without sitting in the stomach, it goes into the small intestine directly and have small intestine to absorb it in 5 min. The shortest time it absorbs by the body, the better it works. Even the body only absorbs 70% of what I.V. has. …These are all natural plants so remember it is not MEDICINE but potent antioxident supplement that you can take daily, worry-free. Good for any age, even pregnant and babies. Work best and see fast result using Isotonix Calcium and Omega3 Fish oil.

L. Matthews - I have struggled with allergies and fungal rashes for the last four years. I have used anti fungal meds and have used numerous natural remedies to get rid of the terrible itching. I had to wear leggings with my skirts all summer due to the embarrassment of these rashes. They were coverering several inches of my legs. Praise God! My prayers were finally answered! Within a couple weeks if not sooner they were almost completely gone. I ended taking the whole bottle in one month. I would take sometimes 8- 10 caps a day. I would take 4 in the morning 2 midday and 2 at night. Depending on my symptoms. I also have two cats and now a Christmas tree and I do have the occasional sneezing and a itchy throat. Nothing compared to what I had before though. I am now going to do the nutriclean 7 day cleanse, aloe, and digestive enzymes.

Pros: in sachet form and effervessent - Cons: none
My husband and I have been using this wonderful product OPC Factor for the last 8 months and we can really say there is a huge improvement in our overall energy, well-being and stress levels. It is sooo easy to use the pre-measured little sachets and they taste great. Its a relief too that there is no unhealthy sweatners added plus it being in an effervescent form its quickly absorbed. I have particularly realized that it has curbed my need to eat in between meals – working at the computer all day, I’ve been in need of chocolate ….but I find when I have my OPC just after lunch, I’m good until dinner. Thank you for this wonderful invention. I can recommend it to anyone who is serious about their health!!

Vitamins your body can actually absorb
Pros: Highly absorbable, with all the antioxidants and vitamins that you need.
Cons: You can’t yet get it at your local Walgreens or CVS.
I’m 33 years old and try to exercise daily. I bought OPC Factor because I really wanted a vitamin supplement with a high absorption rate. OPC Factor is 97% absorbable by the body and within 15 minutes or so. Their literature says it is both isotonic and effervescent meaning the vitamins and minerals are ready to be absorbed upon entering your body, they don’t have to be broken down first like in pills and capsules. Also, unlike other liquid vitamins, there’s not any sugar in OPC Factor to further inhibit absorption.
I really love the taste and actually mix one for my two children as well. They think it’s like Kool-Aid, but they know that it is a “special healthy kool-aid”. I really feel more energized and recover from exercise much faster than before.

Many tropical plants have interesting biological activities with potential therapeutic applications. Garcinia mangostana Linn. (GML) belongs to the family of Guttiferae and is named “the queen of fruits”. It is cultivated in the tropical rainforest of some Southeast Asian nations like Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Philippines, and Thailand. People in these countries have used the pericarp (peel, rind, hull or ripe) of GML as a traditional medicine for the treatment of abdominal pain, diarrhea, dysentery, infected wound, suppuration, and chronic ulcer.

Experimental studies have demonstrated that mangosteen extracts have antioxidant, antitumoral, antiallergic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral activities.

Mangosteen fruits, Garcinia mangostana L. [Guttiferae], were mentioned in Chinese medicinal records dating back to the Ming dynasty (1360 to 1644 AD). Alpha- and γ-mangostins from G. mangostana are identified as bioactive substances with anti-inflammatory effects

Mangosteen Juice Side Effects

Only one case of a serious adverse event possibly related to mangosteen juice has been reported. Doctors described a daily user of mangosteen juice who developed lactic acidosis (acidic blood due to buildup of a byproduct of sugar metabolism). Because mangosteen juice is quite popular and most users do not develop lactic acidosis, the doctors suggest that this problem may have resulted from an interaction of this supplement with other drugs he was taking.

No other ill effects have been reported to date. As with all plants, allergies may be possible. Because of its antioxidant effects, mangosteen supplements may make radiation therapy or chemotherapy less effective. While this concern is based largely on theories of how cancer treatments work, it is supported by some recent studies. For this reason, people being treated for cancer should speak with their doctors before taking this supplement.

A: The ORAC score was found to be 2,466 per serving (1 fl. Oz.), which was more than 45 percent higher than the closest competitor. (This number comes from an independent lab study by Covance Laboratories in October 2005. Other websites publish this chart, it is staggering to see how we overwhelm the competition.

Q: How does the Xanthone content of Mango•xan compare with other Mangosteen-based supplements?

A: The Mangosteen fruit is loaded with Xanthones. Of the more than 40 Xanthones found in the fruit and peel, alpha-mangostin is considered the most active Xanthone and has been widely studied for its health benefits. In an independent study performed by American Analytical Labs in 2005, Mango•xan’s Xanthone content (as measured by its alpha-mangostin content) was found to be:

• 120% higher that Thai-Go

• 3100% higher than XANGO

• 6300% higher than both Naturally Thai Mangosteen and Dynamic Health’s Mangosteen

Q: What are the main differences between Mango•xan and other Mangosteen-based supplements?

A: • Mango•xan® is a 100 percent pure fruit product that has higher Xanthone content and superior ORAC value than other Mangosteen supplements.

• Mango•xan contains a unique Mangosteen peel extract of potent xanthones

• Pure Fruit Technologies’ state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and standards allow Mango•xan to be produced with no preservatives and no added gums, pectins, artificial flavors or fillers

• Because Pure Fruit Technologies sells Mango•xan wholesale to health food retailers as well as directly to consumers through their website, the price of Mango•xan is usually much lower than other Mangosteen based nutritional products at $19.95 per bottle, or less at wholesale, (compared to $35+ per bottle for competing products)

Q: Does Mango•xan include the pulp, seeds, and pericarp of the Mangosteen?

A: Mango•xan uses a puree of the Mangosteen whole fruit including pulp and seeds — the whole fruit portion that can be scooped out from inside the pericarp/hull of the fruit. Pure Fruit Technologies uses a “peel extract” containing high concentrations of xanthones from the peel of the fruit. This extract is added into the juice as an ingredient during production. While other Mangosteen-based juices add small amounts of the actual pericarp to their product as the “vehicle” to supply xanthones, Pure Fruit Technologies uses a more sophisticated method of Xanthone extraction resulting in higher amounts of xanthones in Mango•xan without all the “floaters” and “sludge” of ground-up, bitter pericarp in the drink.

: Where is Mango•xan formulated and produced?

Pure Fruit Technologies produces MangoXan in a state-of-the-art facility located in American Fork, Utah. This facility meets all the FDA guidelines known as GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices).

Since 2002, Pure Fruit Technologies, a manufacturer of healthy, exotic, whole-fruit juice supplements, has searched the globe for exotic fruits that deliver an array of health benefits, including mangosteen, seabuckthorn and goji, and brought them to consumers in the form of potent, high-quality and delicious juice supplements. Pure Fruit Technologies’ products are made from the whole fruit and are sold wholesale to health food retailers and distributors worldwide, as well as direct-to-consumers online.

By: Loene A. – I have osteoarthritis in my right knee and am limited in my ability to walk. Whenever I sit down for any length of time, I have a difficult time standing up as my knee “locks” and I have to rise slowly until it unlocks and I have to walk slowly at first. It has been like this for three years. After one week on Mangoxan (5 oz. daily) I suddenly realized I was standing up and walking normally. I have taken Celebrex ever since my knee scope almost three years ago. I take it once a day, but I am going to see how I do without it for a few days. I have also been able to discontinue my antibiotic for my skin, another plus.

By: Cheri M. – A few weeks ago I picked my daughter (12.5 yrs. old) up from after school with a fever around 99.4. I decided, after hearing another mom use Mangoxan to bring down her child’s fever, that this was how we were going to work with her fever. I gave her 1.5 ounces every 2-3 hours and watched her closely.

Five hours later her fever peaked at 103.4, so I continued a close watch and faithfully gave her Mangoxan and liquids. I checked an hour later and her fever had come down to 103 so continued every 2 hrs. Her last dose was around 3:00a.m. She was resting well so I settled down after having my Mangoxan!

At 7:00 a.m. I woke to go check her again. Much to my shock and surprise she was sitting in bed, reading a book, bright eyed asking me if she could go to school!! She gave me a puzzled look as I just stared at her. And said no, you had a very high fever and I am going to watch you today! Her fever NEVER returned!

In my experience as a mom for 17 yrs, and as a teacher for 8 yrs, I have not heard of any child getting beyond a high fever like hers in that short of time. Plus bounce back with energy like she did.

Oh, did I mention- she loves her Mangoxan and makes sure she has hers every day.

I watch Oprah and Dr. Oz every chance I get. Thank you DVR! I am a “baby boomer” and really have taken notice of my health in the last couple of years as I get nearer to the 60 yr. mark. I was so excited to see Dr. Oz mention one the the fruits that I added to my diet 2 years ago this month. The mangosteen! To share my “story”. I have acid-reflux so bad that the Dr. had wanted to stomach surgery for about 3 years. I told him “no” just give me the strongest “purple pill” you can. I knew what foods I could and couldn’t eat. I also had arthritic pain that comes as we grow older. I LIVED on Advil for years. As I stated, I added the mangosteen fruit juice, XANGO, 2 years ago. The first thing I noticed was the joints didn’t ache. Bye,bye Advil! Next, was the increased energy!!! After drinking XANGO for 1 1/2 months, I decided to see how long I could go without my purple pill. I knew from the past, I couldn’t go more than 24 hours without being sick. Quess what, I didn’t get sick. The next month, I had a Dr.s’ appointment and I shared with him the info on my “juice” and told him I hadn’t taken my purple pill for about a month and felt fine. I was to have a scope done to check for any throat scare tissue which would indicate a concern of cancer. My Dr. told me to go ahead and drink the juice but contact him if I begin having trouble and we would do a scope in 6 months. Six months later, got the scope and everything is fine. Thanks to adding mangosteen to my diet, I feel better than I did in my 30′s. Talk about turning back the clock!!!

With the price I get, it is worth it. I also feel that at this older age, my muscles become less sore.

Ultraviolet Light Boosts Carrots’ Antioxidant Value

Exposing sliced carrots to UV-B, one of the three kinds of ultraviolet light in sunshine, can boost the antioxidant activity of the colorful, crunchy veggie. That’s according to preliminary studies by Tara H. McHugh, a food technologist and research leader at the ARS Western Regional Research Center in Albany, California, and her team.

Found mainly in fruits and vegetables, antioxidants are natural compounds that may reduce risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

The carrot investigation, conducted by McHugh, postdoctoral associate Wen-Xian Du, and others, suggests that a moderate, 14-second dose of UV-B can boost fresh, sliced carrots’ antioxidant capacity by about threefold. The dose is energy-efficient and does not significantly heat or dry the carrots.

Scientists have known for at least a decade that exposing plants to UV-B may cause what’s known as “abiotic stress.” That’s what likely happened with the sliced carrots, McHugh says.

UV-B Light effect on Plants

Pilot scale UV-B treatment of carrot slices at ARS’s Western Regional Research Center. (D2059-1)

Plants respond to abiotic stress by revving up their production of two natural enzymes, polyphenylalanine ammonia-lyase and chalcone synthase. As production of those enzymes increases, levels of phenolics, compounds synthesized by the enzymes, also increase. Some phenolics are antioxidants.

Despite this and other knowledge about plants’ responses to stress and to UV-B, the idea of using UV-B to quickly, safely, and conveniently enrich the antioxidant heft of fresh produce hasn’t been extensively studied, McHugh says.

The carrot research, which McHugh has reported at annual meetings of the American Chemical Society and the Institute of Food Technologists, is helping fill in the knowledge gap. So will similar, ongoing studies at the Albany lab, funded by ARS and by a grant awarded to McHugh and Albany co-investigator Andrew Breksa in 2009 by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

Abstract

A number of different beverage products claim to have antioxidant potency due to their perceived high content of polyphenols. Basic and applied research indicates that pomegranate juice, produced from the Wonderful variety of Punica granatum fruits, has strong antioxidant activity and related health benefits.

Although consumers are familiar with the concept of free radicals and antioxidants, they are often misled by claims of superior antioxidant activity of different beverages, which are usually based only on testing of a limited spectrum of antioxidant activities. There is no available direct comparison of PJ’s antioxidant activity to those of other widely available polyphenol-rich beverage products using a comprehensive variety of antioxidant tests.

The study applied:

(1) four tests of antioxidant potency [Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), total oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), free radical scavenging capacity by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP)];
(2) a test of antioxidant functionality, that is, inhibition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation by peroxides and malondialdehyde methods; and
(3) evaluation of the total polyphenol content [by gallic acid equivalents (GAEs)] of polyphenol-rich beverages in the marketplace.

The beverages included several different brands as follows: apple juice (3), açaí juice (3), black cherry juice (3), blueberry juice (3), cranberry juice (3), Concord grape juice (3), orange juice (3), red wines (3), iced tea beverages (10) [black tea (3), green tea (4), white tea (3)], and a major pomegranate juice available in the U.S. market.

An overall antioxidant potency composite index was calculated by assigning each test equal weight.

Pomegranate juice had the greatest antioxidant potency composite index among the beverages tested and was at least 20% greater than any of the other beverages tested. Antioxidant potency, ability to inhibit LDL oxidation, and total polyphenol content were consistent in classifying the antioxidant capacity of the polyphenol-rich beverages in the following order:

1. Pomegranate Juice
2. Red Wine
3. Concord Grape Juice
4. Blueberry Juice
5. Black Cherry Juice
6. Acai Juice
7. Cranberry Juice
8. Orange juice
9. Iced tea beverages
10. Apple juice.

Although in vitro antioxidant potency does not prove in vivo biological activity, there is also consistent clinical evidence of antioxidant potency for the most potent beverages including both pomegranate juice and red wine.

Cherry Facts and Nutrition Information

Cherries are drupes, or stone fruits, related to plums and more distantly to peaches and nectarines. They have been enjoyed since the Stone Age-pits were found in several Stone Age caves in Europe. The Romans carried cherries throughout Europe and England along the routes of conquest.

Cherries are grown in several regions, but seventy percent of the cherries produced in the United States come from four states (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah).

There are two main types of cherries: sweet and sour. Sour cherries (tart cherries) are lower in calories and higher in vitamin C and beta carotene than sweet cherries. The Montgomery Sour Cherry (Montgomery Tart Cherry) is the best known sour cherry or tart cherry.

What is the difference between tart cherries and sweet cherries?

Sweet cherries are grown primarily for fresh eating. The tart cherry, also called “red tart”, “sour cherry”, or Montmorency, is widely used for canning and processing to make jams, preserves, and pies. Tart cherry pie filling is the number one pie filling sold in the U.S. The name “Montmorency” refers to the most widely grown variety of tart cherries.

Tart cherries have a distinctive, bright red color. In fact, the same compounds that give tarts their color contain the antioxidant properties that researchers are investigating.

While sweet cherries are grown in several parts of the country, tarts are grown primarily in northwestern Michigan. Michigan has 3.8 million tart cherry trees. All of the recent research into the health benefits of cherries is referring to tart cherries.

The tart cherry offers a number natural health benefits and is a source for a number of nutrients. The amazing stories of the natural health benefits have been passed down from generation to generation. They have been passed from mother to daughter and grandfather to grandson.

Cherries to Help you Sleep

The University of Texas Health Science Center recently began to quantify the availability and activity of the melatonin in cherry products. Melatonin is a potent antioxidant for which there is extensive evidence showing it to be significant in improving the body’s circadian rhythms and natural sleep patterns.

In their preliminary work, Dr. Russel Reiter and Dr. Dun-xian Tan used radioimmunoassay (RIA) and high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (HPLC-EC) to identify substantial levels of melatonin in tart cherry juice concentrate. The amount of melatonin found, says Dr. Reiter, “is extremely significant.”Although melatonin is found in the body in extremely small quantities, slight increases in melatonin levels can produce very positive results.

Researchers are now working to determine the amount of active melatonin available to the human body after the consumption of tart cherry juice or other cherry products. Once identified, researchers will be able to calculate the optimum level of cherries that should be consumed to achieve the greatest health benefit. Dr. Reiter points out, “as we age, the human body’s ability to produce melatonin decreases,” so it may be beneficial to find a way to increase melatonin levels, particularly for the elderly. Including cherries as part of a healthy diet could be a way to do this.

Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant considered more potent that vitamins C, E, and A, because it is soluble both in fat and water.

New Research Shows the Power of Cherries

Antioxidant Capacity of Selected Fruits – Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) Units per 100 grams

Recently published research conducted at Michigan State University investigated a range of fruits and berries for the level and activity of anthocyanins found in each.

Researchers analyzed the ability of the fruits to help maintain a healthy body and act as antioxidants to destroy free radicals. The researchers then quantified the anthocyanin levels of tart and sweet cherries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, elderberries and bilberries.

Researchers discovered that the antioxidant activity of anthocyanins from cherries was superior to vitamin E at a test concentration of 125 g/ml.

Anthocyanins 1 and 2 are present in both cherries and raspberries. The yields of pure anthocyanins 1 and 2 in 100 g in cherries and raspberries were the highest of the fruits tested at 26.5 and 24 mg, respectively. Fresh blackberries and strawberries contained only anthocyanin 2 at a total level of 22.5 and 18.2 mg/100 g, respectively; whereas anthocyanins 1 and 2 were not found in bilberries, blueberries, cranberries or elderberries.

Cherries and a healthy cardiovascular system

Cherries are packed with powerful health-promoting properties. Research indicates tart cherries contain at least 17 natural compounds including beta carotene, vitamin A, Melatonin and phenol compounds known as flavonoids.
Studies suggest flavonoids help promote cardiovascular health. Some of the specific flavonoids in cherries include anthocyanins, proanthocyanins and anthocyanidins. Anthocyanins are naturally occurring compounds that give fruits, vegetables and plants their vibrant color. Tart cherries are a good source of these vital flavonoids.

Brunswick Labs located in Wareham, MA discovered that tart cherries also contain a class of compounds called SOD (super oxide dismutase), which act as super scavengers of dangerous free radicals throughout the body. Very few foods contain SOD and the human body is often lacking in SOD.

Cherries and healthy joint function

The good news about the health benefits of cherries continues to increase. According to ongoing research, Montmorency tart cherries are a rich source of antioxidants. In addition, there are beneficial compounds in Montmorency tart cherries that may help maintain healthy joint function.

Other fruits and vegetable do not have the unique anthocyanin and antioxidant makeup similar to those of tart cherries.

While the research on the exact mechanisms that give cherries their unique ability to maintain healthy joint function, many consumers are discovering that tart cherry juice and other cherry products can help maintain an active lifestyle.

Any type of super food means that it is loaded with antioxidants and other wellness supplements that do amazing things for you’re body. Patagonia, where the Maqui Berry is found is actually one of the cleanest places on Earth, which makes it such an ideal condition for growing this super berry. It has been a staple in the diet of the Mapuche Indians, who consistenly have one of the longest life spans of any ethnic or world group alive today.

Powerful Antioxidant

Contrary to popular belief, Maqui berry supplements are almost two times as powerful as the legendary acai berry, when compared side-by-side in an antioxidant absorbency test. Dr. Manny Alvarez, Fox News correspondent, even goes as far as saying, “there’s a new super-fruit in the making!” And by all means, we certainly agree with him on that point.

The Acai berry only contains somewhere around 160 to 300 when it boils down to the antioxidant value. The Maqui berry has a very high antioxidant value of 820. It’s no secret how much more potent the Maqui berry is than the Acai berry.

Use Maqui Berry To Lose Weight & Detoxify Fast!

The strength of the Maqui berry has already hit the world by storm. The Acai berry used to be the strongest food on the market until the Maqui berry began to make an appearance. Which brings to mind, the Maqui berry has a lot more antioxidants than the Acai berry it’s unbelievable.

When you’re trying to lose weight, get some assistance with the Maqui berry. The Maqui berry will remove any toxins and chemicals which have found a way in your body. This will make your body healthy which in turn makes it more effective when you are trying out methods to lose weight.

The Maqui berry is a also very powerful anti-inflammatory. Many people suffer from inflammation in their bones and joints and they can reduce inflammation with the Maqui berry. An organic supplement that works great for inflammation couldn’t get any better than the Maqui berry.

The #1 detox supplement

That’s right, it’s Maqui berry, and it claims to be three times more powerful than acai berry. Not only does it do a full body detox, but it can help you lose weight naturally and safely.

The Maqui berry is very nutritional due to its high levels of polyphenols and anthocyanins. Not to mention that the Maqui berry is one of your best sources of iron, calcium, vitamin c, and other essential nutrients. The Maqui berry isn’t just a health supplement it is the ultimate health supplement that anyone can benefit from.

How does Maqui berry work?

What actually happens is that the mighty Maqui berry can stand up against all the toxins that seek to cause destruction to our bodies. These risky molecules can wreak havoc on our skin, our cardiovascular processes, our immune system and our bones and joints. In truth, they can weaken and compromise practically all parts of the body. The result is an impaired and diminished physiological system.

With the help of the Maqui berry’s antioxidant abilities, these toxic substances are killed, expelled or counterbalanced. As its effects are nullified and negated, the cells and organs undergo a transformation. Metabolism is restored to optimum capacity, energy stores hike up, detox occurs automatically and weight loss results are seen.

Anyone can get it, and as you get older, the likelihood of your developing high blood pressure increases. If you are overweight or obese or if you have diabetes, the odds are even higher.

What is considered high blood pressure?

A blood pressure level of 140/90 mmHg or higher is considered high. About two-thirds of people over age 65 have high blood pressure. If your blood pressure is between 120/80 mmHg and 139/89 mmHg, then you have prehypertension. This means that you don’t have high blood pressure now but are likely to develop it in the future. You can take steps to prevent high blood pressure by adopting a healthy lifestyle.

High blood pressure causes

The causes of high blood pressure vary. Causes may include narrowing of the arteries, a greater than normal volume of blood, or the heart beating faster or more forcefully than it should. Any of these conditions will cause increased pressure against the artery walls. High blood pressure might also be caused by another medical problem. Most of the time, the cause is not known. Although high blood pressure usually cannot be cured, in most cases it can be prevented and controlled.

High blood pressure symptoms

High blood pressure is called “the silent killer” because there often are no symptoms. Your numbers are your only warning. Some patients do experience the typical signs of high blood pressure:
- headache
- dizziness
- pounding in the ears
- bloody nose

If you can just picture pressure in your head, then you would remember the signs of high blood pressure.

Systolic and diastolic high blood pressure

Systolic pressure is the force of blood in the arteries as the heart beats. It is shown as the top number in a blood pressure reading. High blood pressure is 140 and higher for systolic pressure. Systolic high blood pressure is the most common form in middle-aged or older people.

Diastolic pressure is the force of blood in the arteries as the heart relaxes between beats. It’s shown as the bottom number in a blood pressure reading.

The diastolic blood pressure has been and remains, especially for younger people, an important hypertension number. The higher the diastolic blood pressure the greater the risk for heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. As people become older, the diastolic pressure will begin to decrease and the systolic blood pressure begins to rise and becomes more important.

High blood pressure medicine

There are several meds that can lower blood pressure. The one chosen depends on such things as: if you have other medical problems; if you take other medication; possible side-effects of the drug; your age; your ethnic origin; etc. Some medicines work well in some people, and not so well in others. One or two drugs may be tried before one is found to suit.

One medicine reduces high blood pressure to the target level in less than half of cases. It is common to need two or more different types to reduce high blood pressure to a target level. In about a third of cases, three medicines or more are needed to get blood pressure to the target level. In some cases, despite treatment, the target level is not reached. However, although to reach a target level is ideal, you will benefit from any reduction in blood pressure.

How Grape Seed Extract Is Used

Grape seed extract is prepared from the seed of grapes. It is available in capsule and tablet forms.

What the Science Says

Laboratory studies have shown that grape seed contains antioxidants-substances that prevent cell damage caused by free radicals, which are highly reactive molecules that can damage cell function. However, it is still unclear how grape seed might affect human health.

Grape seed extract has shown some beneficial antioxidant effects in preliminary clinical trials. However, few trials have looked at specific diseases or conditions, and little scientific evidence is available.

A study funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) found that grape seed extract did not reduce the hardening of breast tissue that can occur after radiation therapy for breast cancer.

NCI is also funding studies evaluating whether grape seed extract is effective in preventing breast and prostate cancers.

NCCAM is studying whether the action of grape seed extract and its components may benefit the heart or have protective effects in the brain.

Side Effects and Cautions

Grape seed extract is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. It has been used safely for up to 8 weeks in clinical trials.

Side effects that have been reported most often include headache; a dry, itchy scalp; dizziness; and nausea.

The interactions between grape seed extract and medicines or other supplements have not been carefully studied.

Tell your health care providers about any complementary and alternative practices you use. Give them a full picture of what you do to manage your health. This will help ensure coordinated and safe care.
